Last year a year 10 student came into the Peer Support training. He didn’t speak much and was reluctant to make eye contact.
By the end of the year he was trusting myself and the wellbeing team with his story. He chatted often, made eye contact and smiled more.
He applied for leadership positions in Year 11 and has been nominated for the Kokoda Program. There is only student nominated per school and applicants need to be interviewed. During the interview the student stated, “I am not going to let my disabilities hold me back because I can do anything.” When asked who had been his greatest support he answered “The Chaplain”. In response, the Chaplain said, “I feel so lucky, and so privileged to be a part of his journey.”
