On a very stressful and busy day at school, I took a few minutes to sit outside on a bench.
The staffroom was full of chatty teachers and because I have no chaplain office, there was nowhere else to go for a bit of quiet.
I was pondering a situation I had just dealt with, when all of a sudden I was interrupted by a little voice.
He greeted me and then sat on the bench next to me. ‘You looked lonely’, he said, ‘So I thought I would come over and keep you company.’
How many times have I walked up and down the school grounds, looking for children who are on their own, and now he was mimicking my behaviour.
I thanked him for his concern and sent him off to play.
It was a gentle reminder that little eyes are constantly watching our every move and as chaplains, we can gently and positively influence students by our behaviour.
